News Article Date: 10/24/2007 Article Title: MULLIS RACE CARS CONGRATULATES WORLD & DIVISIONAL CHAMPIONS Bradenton, FL: Chad Hedgecock, of Eagle Racing Engines drove his Mullis Race Cars 4-link dragster to victory in the three round Summit Super Series World Championship shootout at Rockingham Dragway’s IHRA World Finals last weekend to win the 2007 IHRA Summit Super Series World Championship. The staff at Mullis Race Cars congratulates Hedgecock on this overwhelming accomplishment! The Summit Super Series, designed several years ago by IHRA to recognize local weekly competitors at IHRA facilities throughout North America, pits competitors from across the continent head-to-head to determine each season’s top grass roots racer. In order to qualify for the 8 car runoff at Rockingham, Hedgecock first had to win his track’s Summit Super Series Championship. Competing at Knoxville Dragway, Hedgecock earned the championship despite not even competing in the maximum 30 rounds allowed. There, Hedgecock compiled a phenomenal 22-4 win/loss record and won the Summit Super Series crown with four unclaimed rounds remaining! That track championship allowed Hedgecock to compete in the Division 2 Summit Super Series runoff at the Bracket Finals at Alabama International Dragway in Steele. There, he drove his Eagle Race Engines powered Mullis Dragster to a final round win over Alabama International Dragway track champion Bobby Lloyd, securing his berth in the 8 car shootout at Rockingham. At Rockingham, Hedgecock would face off with the other five division champions, as well as a pair of wild card competitors to determine the 2007 World Champion. In the first round of the shootout, Hedgecock got a break when Tom Gall, who had traveled to the event all the way from South Dakota, broke on the starting line. In the semi-final round, Hedgecock’s near perfect 7.464 (7.46 dial) was enough to push opponent Tim Myer under by a mere .001 of a second. That victory put Hedgecock in the final round opposite Steve Ferstl’s ‘80 Monza from Burlington, ON. Both drivers left the starting line with conservative reactions; Hedgecock’s .042 edging Ferstl’s .048. At the finish line, it was the Mullis Dragster of Hedgecock getting the nod with a 7.450 (7.44 dial) over Ferstl’s 9.219 (9.20). In addition to Hedgecock’s world championship crown at Rockingham, Mullis Race Cars also earned their second consecutive IHRA “Best Appearing Car” award, as Donny “Hollywood” Urban took the honor with his pair of new Mullis Swing Arm Dragsters. Urban joined the Top Dragster team of Jimmy Jones and Jeff Groat, who earned the “Best Appearing” award at the Presidents Cup Nationals in Maryland. Mullis Race Cars customers across the nation enjoyed success last weekend, as Bryan “Chicken” Balducci earned a $5,000 victory at Atco Dragway in Atco, NJ while Jeff Brotherton and Kevin Burleson each picked up a $10,000 payday (Brotherton was also runner-up to Burleson!) at Holly Springs Motorsports in Holly Springs, MS. Slate Cummings clinched the NHRA Division 4 Super Comp championship with a runner-up finish at the final NHRA LODRS event of 2007 at Silver Dollar Raceway in Reynolds, GA. Cummings topped fellow Mullis customers Lloyd Parfait and his older brother Britt Cummings for the Division 4 crown. Division 6 competitors Anthony Castillo and J.R. Leerkamp each earned NHRA Division Championships in their Mullis machines as well; Castillo claimed the Super Comp championship, while Leerkamp earned the Top Dragster title. Mullis Race Cars would once again like to congratulate 2007 IHRA Summit Super Series World Champion Chad Hedgecock, along with each of the Mullis race car equipped division champions, and to thank each and every Mullis Race Car owner for their business and patronage.
